Announcing the Stencil Github Community
We are so excited to officially announce the creation of the Stencil community Github organization! This community org will be a central place for projects driven by our amazing community of Stencil developers. Let’s take a look at how the community will be set up and how you can get involved.
Initial Projects
Stencil has historically had a lot of room for experimentation, and in the past we’ve created packages under the Stencil name to keep them out of the core compiler. Looking to this year and beyond, we’re going to focus on Stencil as a compiler for web components and begin to move away from creating full-blown web applications using packages maintained by Ionic.
We recognize and appreciate that folks may want to continue building applications with Stencil. With the start of this Stencil community organization, we are moving two packages to the community org so that folks who want to continue to develop applications in Stencil can do so and take a more active role in its development.
Stencil App Starter
The first package that we have moved to the community organization is the stencil-app-starter. We’d like to give a huge shoutout to @valadas and @david-poindexter who have volunteered to maintain this project and continue its development.
Stencil Router
The second package that we have moved to the community is the stencil-router. We are currently looking for community members to take ownership of this project. If you are interested in becoming a maintainer, feel free to contact us via email at devrel@ionic.io. Even if you are unsure about becoming a maintainer, please feel free to reach out. We’re more than happy to discuss what this would look like.
Contributing
Aside from these packages, we’d love to have other community driven Stencil projects included in the GitHub community. If you have a project that you would like to share with the community, please create a proposal via the proposals repo. If you don’t want to completely own a project, but still want to get involved, we encourage you to contribute like you would for any other open source project. We encourage folks to open issues, raise pull requests, etc. No contribution is too small.
All in all, we’re really excited about giving the Stencil community greater ownership. We can’t wait to see all the amazing projects that we know will come from this.
